Weddings: How to Get More Value Out of Your Floral Budget

It’s no surprise that flowers are a big part of any wedding. Not only do they help define the entire vibe of the event, they help to transform the venue into a magical space. They also create an interactive sensory experience through texture, aroma, and giving guests a photo-worthy space. Noted event planner, Ryan Matthew of Studio RM, so eloquently captures the essence and importance flowers add to a wedding.

Flowers are a symbol of new beginnings... I’ve always loved that. I’ve loved how each flower has symbolic meaning to them, like how the dahlia is a symbol for love and dignity or the tulip is for eternal devotion. This brings a whole new dimension to the storytelling of your special day enabling each decision to be crafted with meaning. However in design, visually they are important. Florals infuse the space with life and texture. Floral design brings a personality and lushness to the overall wedding design - and when done well, florals elevate the whole event. Filling the overall day with personal touches and each special moment with life and exuberance.

Let’s talk about how to make the most of your wedding floral budget so you know where to save and where to splurge.

#1 — Important Elements

Focus your budget on floral elements that will most likely be captured in that framed photo sitting on your mantel — the bouquet, ceremony arbor and aisle flowers, the sweetheart table and table centerpieces.

#2 — Seasonal & Local

Use seasonal and/or locally grown flowers. These may not necessarily be less expensive, but they are a better value because they’re fresher and will last longer. Flowers that need to be shipped may come late (or not at all) and be damaged or wilted. Visit our gallery so you can see what’s in season here at Sweet Earth Co. and in our region at the time of your wedding.

#3 — Repurpose

Don’t be afraid to repurpose your floral elements. Bouquets can do double duty as welcome table arrangements — just set out a few empty vases for bridesmaids to place their bouquets in. The ceremony arbor can be repurposed to decorate the sweetheart table or converted to a flowery DJ booth. Ceremony aisle flowers can also be relocated to the sweetheart table, cake table, or any other area of the wedding venue to elevate the look with flowers.

#4 — Use Greenery

Touches of greenery and plants can add a lush vibe to welcome your guests. Adding plants to your tablescape is another way to bring in that garden-inspired feel. Mix them with bud vases or smaller centerpieces for a more budget friendly option. The plants can even serve as favors for your guest.

#5 — Use Trees

Rent trees or use foliage to fill your ceremony and reception areas and provide a lush and organic feel. This is a great option for barn weddings and venues with tall ceilings. Ryan of Studio RM brought in trees for the barn ceremony in this picture. The trees framed the entrance and ceremony area and grounded the space. Afterwards, lights in the trees transformed the space to a fun dance floor.

#6 — Reuse

Extend the life of your flowers by donating them to local senior centers, hospitals, or nonprofits. Or you can dry your bouquet for an everlasting memento.

#7 — Remember Holidays

One final thing to keep in mind is that holidays can affect floral prices, so keep that in mind when deciding on your wedding date and budget.
