Behind the Scenes of The Eco-Friendly Cutting Garden – Part 3: The Live Program

Welcome back to our behind the scenes series on how our program, The Eco-Friendly Cutting Garden, came to be. If you haven’t read Part 1 & Part 2 yet, go check those out first!

Today we’re going to talk about the final result — the live run of The Eco-Friendly Cutting Garden!

We opened the doors to the program in March of last year (2023) and hosted the program live, meaning we released a couple modules at a time and had live Q&A sessions after students had time to go through the material.

We got to receive feedback and see wins in real time, which helped us to make updates for the next launch of the program — coming soon!

It was great that while our students were learning about how to grow the cutting garden of their dreams, we got to learn about delivering the best program possible.

While the main course idea — “Learn to Design, Install & Maintain an Environmentally Friendly Cutting Garden” — remains the same, we’ve added a few resources and streamlined the delivery a bit for the next round.

For instance, some of our students had a strong interest in and wanted to do a deep dive into the topic of soil building. So we have updated the course to include bonus resources such as a lesson on how to read a soil report, a soil health starter guide, and a comprehensive composting guide.

As well, while the course includes a video tutorial on how to design a centerpiece, we’ve updated it to include floral recipes for seasonal bouquets, providing students with more guidance on what to do with the beautiful blooms they grow.

One of the updates that I’m most excited about is the private Facebook group only for course participants. Here I can answer any questions throughout the growing season and develop a community of flower farmers growing sustainable gardens.

I’ll also use the group to pop in with reminders and best practices. Since the course is delivered in early spring in order to prepare for the start of the gardening season, this group will be extremely helpful to students once it’s time to start planting. We’ll be able to use the group for real time gardening support!

In our history of hosting workshops, and now with our recent course launch, we’ve loved seeing how our gardening community has been inspired and encouraged from our teachings:

“The cutting garden course was fabulous! Xenia was always available to answer questions. Highly recommend!” — Jody F.

“The fabulous workshop prepared us to plan and create our own cutting garden with a step-by-step power point and discussion of each phase, with clear, simple advice and direction.” — Pamela S.

“Xenia’s craft and art to bring from seed to bouquet is magical. The stunning blooms, amazing colors and the variety of these bouquets are always incredible. Her deep understanding of gardens and blooms is innate and the universe has certainly put her on this planet to share her gift!” — Sarah D.

My goal for this course is to help people who love flowers turn their lawn and open space (no matter how small) into a beautiful and bountiful oasis for themselves, their community, and the pollinators. Seasonal flower beds and borders, as well as eco-friendly cut flower gardens, can reward us with bouquets all season long while also being beneficial for the environment.

Thanks for joining us for this behind the scenes peek at our signature program — be sure to get on the course waitlist here to be the first to hear about open enrollment!

We’ll also be hosting a free live event on February 6th, 2024 where you can learn how to plan your dream cutting garden. Sign up here for that.
